More good news!MCHLN BOOSTED BY £9,776 from Aberdeenshire Communities Mental Health & Wellbeing Fund (Round 4) Laurencekirk based older people’s charity Mearns & Coastal Healthy Living Network (MCHLN) has secured a grant totaling £9,776 from funding being made available by the Scottish Government and administered by the TSI Scotland Network on its behalf, with Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action acting in the capacity of lead partner for Aberdeenshire. The one-year grant is being used to fund MCHLN’s Work Therapeutically with Grief and Loss project which aims to identify and engage with older adults who may be experiencing the negative effects of grief because of bereavement, loss, or life changes. The project will be delivered by a qualified counsellor as a series of workshops incorporating a variety of therapeutic activities. Its key aims are to support the mental health and wellbeing of older adults and provide attendees with the tools and techniques for coping with grief and navigating the grieving process – ultimately empowering participants to take steps towards healing and to adapt to life after loss.Founded in 2002, MCHLN provides a range of services and activities designed to improve health and wellbeing, reduce the effects of isolation and loneliness, combat exclusions and isolations, ease the effects of financial hardship, and empower older people to live better for longer in their own homes. MCHLN has over 600 registered clients and engages with some 200 older people weekly across a 300² mile area via its network of volunteers.John Duncanson, Funding & Development Officer at MCHLN said, “Older people can face loss on so many fronts…and for many it’s overwhelming. Thanks to this award we can provide a service to help support those struggling – ultimately that’ll mean improved health, wellbeing and happiness for vulnerable older people across Kincardine & Mearns – and, on behalf of MCHLN, I’d like to say a massive thanks to AVA for continuing to recognise the importance of what we do ”If you'd like to enquire about accessing the counselling service please click the button!

MCHLN BOOSTED BY £90,000 OF FUNDING Laurencekirk based older people’s charity Mearns & Coastal Healthy Living Network (MCHLN) has secured a grant totaling £90,000 from Bank of Scotland Foundation’s funding programme, Enable. The three-year grant is being used to support the running of MCHLN’s volunteer-led activities, including its affordable transport service which takes rurally isolated older people on lower incomes to appointments benefitting wellbeing – such as attending healthcare appointments, going shopping, to visit spouse in care homes etc. The funding will also cover volunteer provision for MCHLN’s suite of groups, activities and services, which provide older people with over 550 social opportunities per year.Founded in 2002, MCHLN provides a range of services and activities designed to improve health and wellbeing, reduce the effects of isolation and loneliness, combat exclusions and isolations - and ease the effects of financial hardship – all of which help older people live for longer in their own homes. MCHLN has over 600 registered clients and engages with some 200 older people weekly via a network of 100 volunteers. The funding will mean that the charity’s immediate future is secure, and it can continue to deliver a range of activities supporting its clients.John Duncanson, Funding & Development Officer at MCHLN said, “Older people can often find themselves isolated – especially in rural areas poorly served by public transport. For many without access to a vehicle, attending vital healthcare or social appointments can be unaffordable. Our volunteer transport service combats this situation but is experiencing ever-increasing demand. In 2016 we were doing around 200 transports per year – this year we’ll most likely complete around 2,000. This grant from Bank of Scotland Foundation’s Enable Programme will mean so much to so many local older people – and will help us to continue to provide essential volunteering opportunities which provide the motive power for practical supports like our transport service and other social opportunities and activities. Ultimately that’ll mean improved health, wellbeing and happiness for hundreds of vulnerable older people across Kincardine & Mearns”.Donald MacKechnie, Chair of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees and Insurance & Wealth Transformation and Strategy Director, Lloyds Banking Group said, “We are delighted to award Mearns and Coastal Healthy Living Network with £90,000 of funding over 3 years. The cost of living crisis means many charities are struggling with increasing expenditure, at a time when the demand for their services is as great as ever. Our grant awards will help charities through the challenging months ahead.”Bank of Scotland Foundation
