Now, another (belated) but nonetheless heartfelt 'THANK YOU' to NHS Grampian Charity !See the press release, below:Laurencekirk based charity Mearns and Coastal Healthy Living Network (MCHLN) has received a charitable grant of £9,822.60 to support expansion of its ‘Past Times’ social group for those living with dementia.Since its establishment over twenty years ago, MCHLN has grown from a fledgling charity to one engaging some 200 older people a week via a volunteer network of around 90 individuals. Running 550 groups, classes, and activities annually, MCHLN focuses on combating the effects of loneliness, isolation, and exclusion, and its activities, services, and groups promote social engagement whilst supporting and assisting individuals with the practical issues of day-to-day life. The funding will help address a 100% increase in demand for MCHLN’s services, and a 25% increase in its number of registered clients (since 2020).The grant was awarded to the charity by NHS Grampian Charity, the official charity of NHS Grampian, through its Community Grants Programme.John Duncanson, MCHLN’s Funding & Development Officer, says: "This grant will make such a difference to rurally isolated older people living with dementia. It’ll mean easy access to fun social activities and outings, the opportunity for new experiences and maintaining/creating new friendships, much needed respite for carers, and access to practical support from partner agencies such as Age Scotland, Alzheimer Scotland, and KAMCAB. We’re a peer-to-peer community network – it’s older people supporting older people – and we couldn’t do what we do without our amazing volunteers – so a massive ‘thanks’ to all 90 of them, too! The funding will have a meaningful impact – helping boost the wellbeing, physical and mental health, and happiness of so many people across our community.Lisa Duthie, Charity Lead for NHS Grampian Charity, says: "NHS GrampianCharity supports the health and wellbeing of all the residents of theGrampian region, and we are thrilled to be able to support local organisations like MCHLN to deliver projects like this in theirown community."To find out more about MCHLN’, please visitmchln.org.uk/www.nhsgcharities.com/2024/03/27/nhs-grampian-charity-awards-over-160000-to-local-health-initiati...
